At her home, in front of her loom, Debbie allowed me the briefest, the
very briefest glimps into her life. For this much, I was very grateful.
I spent the afternoon with Debbie, and I came away with the feeling that
she had cracked opened the door to me. But I also felt that I had failed
to understand how to open it fully. I’m sorry for this, but at the
same time, I think she understood. I also think that if I ever wanted
to try again, she would give me another chance.
